This meticulously designed garden, formerly the residence of renowned landscape architect Bevis Bawa, is a true testament to the harmonious blend of art and nature. Here are some compelling reasons why Brief Garden should be on your travel itinerary: 1. A Masterpiece of Landscape Architecture: Brief Garden is the masterpiece of Bevis Bawa, the talented brother of Sri Lanka’s legendary architect, Geoffrey Bawa. Throughout the garden, you’ll encounter an eclectic mix of sculptures, statues, and quirky art installations, all carefully integrated with the surrounding nature. From abstract art to traditional sculptures, each piece adds an element of surprise and delight, making every step a new adventure. 4. Unraveling the History: Beyond its stunning aesthetics, Brief Garden holds a rich history waiting to be uncovered. Visitors can learn about Bevis Bawa’s life and contributions to Sri Lanka’s architectural heritage through guided tours or by exploring the garden at their own pace. The stories behind the garden’s creation add an extra layer of appreciation to its beauty. 5. Photographic Paradise: Photography enthusiasts will be in their element at Brief Garden.

I’ve had the pleasure of staying at many Cinnamon hotels and resorts around Sri Lanka, but nothing prepared me for my experience at Cinnamon Bey Beruwala, just an hour south of Colombo. My stay at the resort started with the brand new luxury wing experience, where I checked in at leisure, whilst sipping on a welcome drink and enjoying panoramic views of the Indian Ocean. This was followed by a designated Cinnamon Storyteller who escorted me into the property, narrating an enchanting tale of Beruwala’s rich heritage, the history of the property and the significance of its architecture. One of the main highlights of the new wing is the Luxury Lounge, which doubles up as an entertainment hub as well as a quiet retreat for those who are staying there. If you would like to relax with a drink, after an express check in, there is an exclusive bar as well as intimate library space and a pool table, of which I thoroughly enjoyed a good game. All Deluxe Rooms and Suites are fully equipped with luxury bedding, high quality bed and bath linens, 42-inch widescreen TVs, handy tea and coffee-making units and a range of other fine amenities. And if that sounds impressive, the Luxury Wing also has direct access to a dedicated pool area that overlooks the ocean. If you would like to spoil yourself with a private balcony and a plunge pool, The Paradise Suites – the hotel’s highest room category built upon the hotel’s highest point of elevation – is a definite must do! My favourite experience was the lavish high tea service, which was followed by rounds of sunset cocktails. Breakfast at the Fire Restaurant was a culinary experience in itself, where I experienced a mix of asian and continental cuisine, exclusively for us luxury wing guests. Indeed it was a feast! Food aside, my stay at Cinnamon Bey Beruwala was definitely memorable. What impressed me the most was the impeccable personalized service, comfortable stay at the hotel and the views of the sweeping ocean and sunset vistas – perfect for capturing those instagrammable moments.
